While hurricane season is winding down, flu season is coming on strong. Flu season is unpredictable and can be severe. Between 1976 and 2006, estimates of flu-associated deaths in the United States ranged from a low of about 3,000 to a high of about 49,000 people.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says the best way to protect against the flu is to get vaccinated early. Typically, it takes a couple of weeks after getting a flu shot for the antibodies to develop and begin protecting you. If you suspect you have the flu, check for symptoms such as a cough, chills, sore throat, fatigue, body aches, headache, runny or stuffy nose and a fever. It is important to remember not everyone with the flu has a fever and those most prone to getting the flu are the very young and elderly.
In order to help fight the flu this season, Guardian Pharmacy of Southeast Florida has preordered 1,000 flu vaccines. By getting vaccinated you are not only protecting yourself, but those you come in contact with. If you are interested in ordering your flu shot from Guardian SEFL, please call Assura Chauhan at 954-601-2121 or reach us by fax at 954-601-2400.
